Creating & Intention

Today I remembered the benefit of setting intention before creating.

During my live motion art performances, my pre game consisted of asking myself, who is my audience? Sometimes it was bikers at a rally, often families at a festival, or just anyone who needed up lifting. Mostly however, the answer was “myself”.

Knowing for whom I’m creating helps me get into the creative flow. If I’m the audience, then I go all out and have a joyful time doing things I find pleasing. All the while trusting my efforts will produce something useful. If I’m creating for a specific audience, that helps put me in their perspective and cater towards their preferences.

I can still stay true to my artistic rebel that wants independence but I am influenced by the things around me. For example, I am free to create art around the Lovense and Hankey’s toys, but it was the fan’s influence that made those toys popular and catch my attention.

The goal is to always have a give-and-take with the audience; I feel the audience and they impact my response. The Internet facilitates this communique 24/7 — My performance is on stage all the time. My fans provide feedback, which inspires my response.

Over time my fans will speak through me and I will speak for my fans — This will be my measure of success as an artist!
