Keeping an Artist Focused

Documenting my creative process on cam

Accepting the fact that observation changes the state of the observed, I’ve found that if I want to change something I first need to shine a spotlight on it. Creating only when inspiration strikes is fine for the hobbyst, however for artists with client deadlines and rent due, tools are needed to keep timelines.

I tried a few things like setting a timer on my phone and do ten minute sprints of productivity, or Slack channels with tasks to track my progress. These tools served to organize my production needs however they didn’t do much to make me actually do the work.

Once I launched my Patreon page and I committed to create content for subscribers I noticed setting up my workstation for filming resulted in much longer working sessions. The responsibility of creating content is a fun and rewarding motivator to create.

Since documenting more of my life and work on cam I have transformed into a productive machine and without teeth-grinding effort. Online content and data creation as a job allows us choice how we interact online. Documenting me online sets the framework for how and what to create.

Focus on content creation and the end product will be your art, or whatever you’re trying to accomplish.
