Brave browser & DuckDuckGo
After watching Jennifer Zhu Scott on TedTalks, I looked up her suggestions. Taking steps towards being a more conscious participator on the internet.
I installed it for iOS on my mobile device. It gives you the option to earn tokens by agreeing to see privacy-respecting ads. They pop up the way a notification would on your phone and then you can choose to open it.
I like the idea of earning value within a system by participating and then encouraged to pass that value on to give value to sites that are valuable to you.
I also like the layer of choice I was given regarding ads. I can choose to be exposed to ads and then I can choose whether or not to open them. It feels respectful. Presenting the ads in a notification pop up style that is familiar to me, made it feel natural. And I simply swiped up to move it out.
DuckDuckGo
I downloaded DuckDuckGo, set it as my primary search engine, and added it to my main buttons on my phone. I’ve been using only it and I like it better than google. Honestly. I like the way the windows are organized and it’s just clean overall. I searched myself and was pleased with the order of the search results. There were only 2 images that were found. I’m not sure how I feel about that. When I google search myself there’s soooo many. But some that I wish weren’t. There were several of my YouTube videos that were found under video section.
Overall I’m pleased with both Brave and DuckDuckGo. It feels good to exercise choice.
